Movie Maker issues?

I want to make one of those cool music video's in tribute to my favorite movie... Like the ones on Youtube. But for one, I can't import any downloaded movies because DEP won't let me, then when I try to import music from my MP3 library there is always an error... Is there some other program I can use for this besides Movie Maker? Or does anyone have any advice... thanks :D
