I believe the person above may be wrong. There is a limit to the length of time a copyright is honored. If the work was created after Jan.1,1978 the author owns the copyright for the length of his lifetime plus 70 years. Before 1978 the copyright was usually good for 28 years and could be renewed. A brief quote can be used without author's permission but you must give proper credit. Check the US copyright office website for more details to protect yourself.
