What is he doing? shy, not really interested, what?

so i have been talking to this guy. he lives a floor above me in my dorm. a mutual friend set us up at the beginning of the year and since then we talked every couple days through text. this weekend we watched the superbowl together (not my plan his) just me and him and it seemed to go great. he ended up staying til about eleven thirty. when i walked him out i got a hug. after that he has texted me everyday when he gets off work. we had plans thursday (i asked him to the movie but he was hinting that he wanted to go) but he had to cancel due to an out of town trip he had to make for his internship. so the thing is i would think since we are in such close proximity that he would have stepped up by now and asked me out. our mutual friend has said that he is shy but still even shy guys get courage when they know a girl is interested. so what should i do? should i ask him out for this weekend? if so what should we do? if not then do i just need to move on?
